Fans of Team USA would be forgiven for fearing that not enough lessons will have been learned by the time the 2027 Ryder Cup kicks off at Adare Manor.

The 2025 Ryder Cup could end up helping Team USA, provided that they do not bury their head in the sand and hope that they somehow magically stumble upon a winning formula.

Which golf rule would you change if you had the chance?

Of course, Tom Watson remains the last American captain to win an away Ryder Cup. That event took place in the same month that Bryson DeChambeau was born.

Team USA need to use the Presidents Cup differently

Team USA should certainly be looking to use this year’s Presidents Cup to their advantage as they prepare to travel over to the Republic of Ireland next year.

However, there is a problem facing Brandt Snedeker as he continues his preparations for Medinah.

With Snedeker naming Jim Furyk as an assistant captain for later this year, there is an opportunity to start building a real identity that will benefit the team in 2027.

Snedeker should be prepared to take some risks with his picks and pairings. Team USA should not simply look at picking the 12 best players to take on the International team.

Instead, Snedeker, Furyk and the rest of the backroom team should have one eye on players they believe could have a real role to play in the next Ryder Cup, even if they are not quite ready this year.

There are a number of promising youngsters who would benefit from playing in a team event before making a Ryder Cup debut.

Brandt Snedeker will be a brave man to keep one eye on the 2027 Ryder Cup

The issue is that Team USA have won 13 of the 15 stagings of the Presidents Cup. They have not suffered a single defeat since the turn of the century.

Snedeker should be able to take a few gambles with his plans for Medinah and still lift the trophy on Sunday. But he will know what the reaction will be if Geoff Ogilvy’s men emerge victorious.

Should LIV golfers be allowed to play the Presidents Cup?

Surely it would help the Internationals close the gap

There will be uproar, particularly after what happened at Bethpage last year.

With that, Snedeker is going to have to be incredibly brave to move away from the established players and pairings that have brought Team USA little joy in the Ryder Cup in recent years.
