Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland will face off on Monday in a sudden-death playoff at the Travelers Championship.

Hovland entered the final round at the Travelers Championship one shot ahead of Scheffler.

However, the Norwegian only managed to shoot one-under par on Sunday, while the American posted a round of two-under par 68.

What did you think of Scottie Scheffler’s reaction to Viktor Hovland’s slow play?

Was Scottie out of line to head to the next tee while Viktor was still putting?

Viktor Hovland has really struggled on the PGA Tour this season, and in theory, the same can be said of Scottie Scheffler.

However, the big difference between the two players is that the world number one’s ‘C’ game is good enough to finish consistently inside the top-5, while Hovland misses cuts and finishes outside the top 50 when he does not have his best form.

On Monday, Scheffler has the chance to record his 21st PGA Tour victory, while Hovland is chasing his eighth.

While they will both be desperate to win the Travelers, neither player would have been happy about having to hang around for another day, with a seriously busy July schedule ahead of them.

In fact, Scheffler and Hovland having to return to TPC River Highlands on Monday was completely avoidable in the first place.

The PGA Tour made a big mistake on Sunday at the Travelers

The PGA Tour had the option to bring forward the tee times on Sunday.

They knew that bad weather was incoming around 5:00 p.m. local time.

However, they rolled the dice and after the bad weather came, as everyone knew it would, the players were forced off the course.

A delay of around one hour and 15 minutes ensued, and the players returned to the golf course at 7:20 p.m. local time.

Scheffler and Hovland still had four-and-a-half holes to play, and they just managed to complete their rounds as the sun came down at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Both players finished on the same score and due to darkness, they will have to come back on Monday to start the sudden-death playoff.

PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship decision backfires badly

The PGA Tour’s refusal to bring forward the tee times and move to threesomes showed a complete disregard for the players and the fans.

What do you make of the planned changes to the PGA Tour?

What do you like? What concerns you about the changes?

They obviously made the decision because they want the business end of the tournament to play out during prime time hours on the east coast.

However, Scheffler and Hovland now have to stay in Cromwell, Connecticut for another day.

Meanwhile, fans who have to return to work on Monday will now miss the excitement of watching a playoff between two of the best players in the world.

The PGA Tour must learn from this moving forward. They would be nothing without the fans, and they must start prioritising them over prime time viewing figures.
