Brothers Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick just claimed an unforgettable PGA Tour win, emerging victorious at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
It continues a dream season for both players, with Matt Fitzpatrick now a three-time champion in 2026 after his Zurich Classic success.
Alex Fitzpatrick meanwhile won the Hero Indian Open last month, representing his maiden win on the DP World Tour.
He’s currently seventh in the Race to Dubai rankings, the top 10 of which at the end of the season earn PGA Tour cards.
But Fitzpatrick has now instead earned a PGA Tour card through 2028, which suggests that a rule change is needed with the Zurich Classic sooner rather than later.
Is Matt Fitzpatrick the best player on the PGA Tour right now?
PGA Tour must make change to the Zurich Classic
While Alex Fitzpatrick worked very hard to grind out a PGA Tour win with Matt Fitzpatrick, the rewards he has just earned are simply far too generous for a team event.
The Englishman’s efforts were essentially halved as he played alongside his brother, yet he has received a stunning list of exemptions for securing the title.

That includes the rest of the Signature Events of 2026, alongside the small matter of this year’s PGA Championship and The Players Championship in 2027.
It is a truly extraordinary list of tournaments, starting with next week’s Cadillac Championship, and soon to be followed by the Truist Championship, the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship.
It is a scenario that the PGA Tour must consider analysing for next year’s event, with many players likely to be left somewhat frustrated at the exemptions on offer for a team tournament.

Alex Fitzpatrick set for major boost at the Cadillac Championship
Fitzpatrick has little time to celebrate his Zurich Classic title as he heads to Miami for the Cadillac Championship.
Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster Course plays host to the 72-player PGA Tour event, which notably has no cut.
But more significant for the likes of Fitzpatrick is the huge $20million purse, which he is set to earn a share of.
The champion will take home $3.6million, with a rather sizeable $36,000 going towards the player who finishes in last place.
While the Englishman will be out to prove himself, he can rest easy in the knowledge that he will be rewarded financially for his efforts no matter what.
Who do you think will win the Cadillac Championship?

Moreover, unlike the absence of many high-profile names at the Zurich Classic, Fitzpatrick now has the chance to test himself against some of the very best players in golf.
World number one Scottie Scheffler headlines the field, and he’s joined by Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Collin Morikawa among many other stars.
