September’s Presidents Cup will almost certainly result in the PGA Tour receiving plenty of criticism after yet another emphatic victory for Team USA.

The Presidents Cup should be one of the most highly anticipated events on the calendar. However, there is regularly a feeling that those working behind the scenes have missed an opportunity to create something that could one day close the gap to the Ryder Cup.

Are golf club’s dress code rules outdated or are they important to retain?

There are some easy changes that could be made. One International win could transform the event, so enabling the International captain to pick their entire team would make sense.

Meanwhile, it would also be a smart move to reduce each session over the first two days to four matches, rather than five. Depth is a big problem for the team in black and gold, so having 10 players out on the course at the same time is not helpful.

But perhaps there is another way that Brian Rolapp can use the Presidents Cup to drive more interest in the two tiers the PGA Tour will be split into from 2028.

How the Presidents Cup could be used to help fans care about the Challenger Series

One of the big concerns for the new-look PGA Tour is how are those at Ponte Vedra going to make more casual fans care about the Challenger Series.

Almost all of the big stars should be able to retain their card on the Championship Series. So the second tier will lack the household names that fans will recognise.

But perhaps that would change slightly if the PGA Tour decided that four players on each Presidents Cup team must be picked from those who have played on the Challenger Series that year.

Not only would that give players lower down the food chain even more to fight for, but it would also add to the pressure on those on the Championship Series to make sure that they are in the top eight.

Those who have earned promotion midway through the season would also be eligible for a Presidents Cup pick from the Challenger Series, so they do not miss out because of how much success they have enjoyed.

It would also help introduce fans to some of the names knocking on the door, when they face the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Adam Scott in what should be one of the best team events in the game.

The Presidents Cup needs to change if it is going to silence its critics in the years to come. Perhaps using it to welcome Challenger Series players to the big time is one of the ways it can move forward.
