Kai Trump will tee it up on the LPGA Tour at The ANNIKA at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, this week.

It’s not only Kai Trump’s invite to the LPGA Tour event which has caused so much debate. WNBA star Caitlin Clark has been invited to play in the Pro-am alongside Nelly Korda and sponsor exemption Lauryn Nguyen on Wednesday afternoon.

There has been serious controversy concerning Trump’s invite into the event, considering her lack of experience in playing at the very highest level and her apparent lack of credentials.

Kai Trump is obviously a very good golfer in her own right and plays off a +0.5 handicap.

However, many golf fans have suggested that there are numerous players who are far more deserving of an invite to The Annika than President Trump‘s granddaughter.

While those criticisms are fair, there is another way to look at Trump playing at Pelican Golf Club and it could be argued that the LPGA Tour deserve credit for the decision and indeed their idea to get Caitlin Clark involved in the Pro-Am.

Why the LPGA Tour deserve big credit for Kai Trump and Caitlin Clark decisions

Of course, Trump received a sponsor’s invite into The Annika but the LPGA Tour still facilitated it.

And here’s why Kai Trump playing on the LPGA Tour is such a clever move.

Unfortunately, there is no standout superstar in the women’s game right now, after Korda’s regression over the past 12 months.

As a result, interest could well be dwindling in the LPGA Tour as a product.

Having Kai Trump play at The Annika will ensure that there will be huge fanfare around the LPGA Tour event this week.

Also, having Caitlin Clark play in the Pro-Am could be a masterstroke as well.

The 23-year-old WNBA player is one of the biggest stars in sport in general, and her appearance at The Annika Pro-Am will draw huge amounts of fans to their TV screens.

She has described herself as an average golfer of around a 16-handicap. Her popularity across the United States will equal huge viewing figures for the LPGA Tour at a time when interest could be waning due to Korda’s loss of form.

So while the powers that be on the LPGA Tour may be facing criticism right now for their Trump and Clark decisions, it could end up being a move that provides a massive boost for the women’s game in general.

How to watch Kai Trump and Caitlin Clark in action at the LPGA Tour event

Clark will tee off on Wednesday morning in Florida, with coverage beginning at 10am ET on the Golf Channel.

Meanwhile, Trump will be teeing off at 12:32pm ET on Thursday alongside Hinako Shibuno and Olivia Cowan.

Again, coverage will begin on the Golf Channel from 10am ET.

There is a huge buzz around The Annika this week and not just because of LPGA Tour stars like Nelly Korda and Charley Hull.

Kai Trump and Caitlin Clark are major attractions in Belleair, Florida, this week, and having them both compete at Pelican Golf Club could well be a masterstroke from the LPGA Tour and their sponsors.

Whether Trump will perform well or not at the very highest level of the game is another matter entirely, though.
