When we look at the current LIV Golf roster, there are few on there who have achieved as much in the game of golf as Dustin Johnson.
Johnson, now 41, was one of the big stars to jump ship from the off to LIV Golf as a mega-money contract and the lure of playing less golf proved too much to resist.
Despite an obvious drop in form in recent times, it hasn’t all been bad for ‘DJ’ over on LIV.
Thoughts?
He has won three times, and got a win in each of the 2022, 23, and 24 seasons, before seeing a big drop in form in 2025.
However, while he has those LIV wins, 2 majors and more than 20 PGA Tour wins to his name, Johnson is among a cluster of golfers who will look back on a missed opportunity as well.
Dustin Johnson was good enough to be a grand slam champion
With so much made of Rory McIlroy’s Masters win this year and how that got him over the line to become a grand slam champ, we can look at Dustin Johnson and suggest he could have done the same.
Between the years of 2016 – when he won the US Open – and 2020 when he won The Masters, few were playing better golf than Johnson on the PGA Tour.

It is also in that time frame that Johnson twice finished runner-up at the PGA Championship – in consecutive years it’s worth adding – and had already got a shock second place finish at The Open years prior in 2011.
Those near-misses paint a clear picture that Johnson was more than ready and capable to win more majors, and crucially, win all four.
Sadly, though, Johnson’s move to LIV has affected his form and right now, it looks like we aren’t ever going to see a major contending Johnson again.
Dustin Johnson’s major form since LIV Golf arrived
DJ made his LIV debut back in 2022 and his major form since then has really been quite poor.
Indeed, after finishing T6 at The Open that year, Johnson has managed just one top ten across all the majors since then, coming at the 2023 US Open.
2025 was a miserable year for him as well. He missed the cut at every major barring The Open, and even then, he could only muster a T23 finish.
Which of these LIV Golf stars would you least like to see back on the PGA Tour?
Obviously, Johnson can play The Masters for life but his exemption for the US Open will run out this year.
With LIV still not getting OWGR points, there are fewer opportunities now for DJ to get those two major wins to put him in the grand slam circle.
Certainly, it seems like he’s missed a big opportunity to be a true great.
