Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge will finally bring an end to their exciting Race to Dubai battle on the DP World Tour this week.

The DP World Tour Championship concludes the DP World Tour season, with McIlroy currently in pole position to secure the grand prize.

He leads the Race to Dubai rankings after the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, where he finished T3.

Aaron Rai won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links, overcoming Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff.

Penge finished T9, but does remain in contention to lift the trophy that McIlroy has in the last three seasons.

The DP World Tour must consider a big rule change for next season

The current situation does, however, perhaps need a rethink from 2026 given the number of tournaments played by the leading pair.

While it is an exciting battle, with McIlroy loving his tussle with Penge, the current rules certainly favour the Northern Irishman.

He has played just 10 tournaments this season, compared to the 25 of the Englishman, who has been a regular on the DP World Tour.

More fair would be giving more weight to those who play regularly, rather than those who are dipping in and out.

Importantly for Penge, a stunning Race to Dubai win remains possible as he enters the DP World Tour Championship sitting 767 points behind McIlroy.

A total of 2,000 points will be awarded to the winner of the upcoming tournament at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

That means LIV Golf star Tyrrell Hatton, who has played just nine events, can also win the Race to Dubai title.

Why Rory McIlroy holds big advantage over Marco Penge in the Race to Dubai

Unfortunately for Penge, McIlroy not only leads the way this season, but he will have further confidence thanks to his DP World Tour Championship success at the same course this time last year.

McIlroy and Penge being two of golf’s biggest hitters have enhanced their exciting rivalry, with that area of their games set to play a central role once again next week.

But the former, who certainly deserves the rewards he has received for his DP World Tour wins this season, has to be the more confident of the duo.

Along with his previous success in Dubai, he should receive huge support there, while McIlroy loves the Jumeirah Golf Estates course.

Moreover, he just finished his latest event with a phenomenal 10-under 62, his lowest score on the DP World Tour in 2025.

McIlroy has also been there and done it all before, and should even hold a mental advantage over Penge and the rest of the field in Dubai.
