The PGA Tour certainly appears to be moving in an exciting direction with Brian Rolapp at the helm, with the CEO tasked with trying to maximise its potential.
Brian Rolapp has a lot of credit in the bank. His appointment looked to be a coup for the PGA Tour. And there have been a number of impressive decisions made from Ponte Vedra in recent months.
However, he will be aware that not everyone will like the changes he is set to make.
That presents a real opportunity to the DP World Tour.
The DP World Tour may have a chance to convince Rory McIlroy to return
The PGA Tour is set to be split into two tiers from 2028. The intention is to have all of the tour’s best players involved in all of the signature events throughout the season.
Meanwhile, there is set to be some excitement created from the prospect of promotion and relegation between the two tiers.
But the PGA Tour has been dealt a blow, with Rory McIlroy insisting ahead of the US Open that he plans to continue to play the schedule that he wants in the years to come. Two of McIlroy’s last four starts have been at the majors.

Meanwhile, Robert MacIntyre told The Times in the last few days that he would love to be in a position to only play on the DP World Tour. However, he is aware that it will negatively impact him when it comes to the majors and making the Ryder Cup team.
The DP World Tour is likely to receive a boost in the coming years as doubts over LIV Golf‘s future persist. Those suspended from the PGA Tour are likely to ply their trade on the European circuit should they leave LIV in the coming months.
And with players such as McIlroy and MacIntyre expressing some dissatisfaction with life on the PGA Tour, there is a window for the DP World Tour to make a big push to become a heavyweight of the game again.
The PGA Tour will struggle to keep every single player happy
McIlroy now lives in Wentworth. So if the PGA Tour make it clear that the star players need to be involved at most of the tier one events, then the DP World Tour need to offer the 37-year-old the chance to shape how the circuit looks in the years to come.
Whether they like it or not, the DP World Tour has gradually become a feeder tour over the last couple of decades.
If they can convince arguably the greatest European golfer of all-time to return, with players of MacIntyre’s calibre following him, the DP World Tour could be transformed.
