Brooks Koepka’s form always seems somewhat irrelevant whenever he arrives at a major championship.

There is no one in the game who has been better over the last decade when it comes to peaking at the four biggest events of the year than Brooks Koepka.

Who can stop Rory McIlroy from winning this week?

It appeared that Koepka had largely written himself off as a force in the game when he decided to take the money on offer from LIV Golf and leave the PGA Tour in 2022.

And yet, he was able to win the PGA Championship the following year to take his tally of major wins to five.

Brooks Koepka is rediscovering the focus he needs to win major championships

Koepka has had little to smile about in the majors since that latest victory, with no further top 10s. He has missed the cut at each of the four majors since the start of the 2025 season.

However, there has perhaps been a sign at the Scottish Open that Koepka is ready to prove all of his doubters wrong again.

Koepka was, of course, the first marquee name to leave LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour ahead of this season.

His return was a hugely significant moment in the game’s recent history. And the importance of that decision will likely increase as more and more LIV players look to come back to the PGA Tour, particularly as the penalties handed to Koepka will help decide the punishments others will face.

But one person who has no interest in what happens to anyone who follows his lead is Koepka himself.

He was asked ahead of the Scottish Open about whether he is keen to see more of the world’s best players play together more often with Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton playing at The Renaissance Club.

“I don’t have an opinion either way. I’m more focused on myself. I think that’s the one thing I think I’ve learned through all of this is if I can just focus on myself and be the best golfer, best father, husband, whatever, I’m doing more than I want to do right now, and being present with them and play good golf,” he said.

“I feel like that’s all that matters to me. What happens to everybody else, I’m not so concerned with.”

Brooks Koepka is no longer dealing with the demands of being a captain on LIV Golf

Koepka appeared to be burdened by the role of being a captain on LIV Golf. While he never seemed entirely comfortable with the position, Koepka made sure that he was at all of the meetings with the league’s decision makers.

It certainly seemed to impact Koepka’s form.

He now has none of those distractions back on the PGA Tour.

Are golf club’s dress code rules outdated or are they important to retain?

The dust is settling after his return from LIV and Koepka is now getting into a nice rhythm. He opened up with a four under par round of 66 on Thursday in North Berwick.

His focus on himself and his own game is ominous for the best players in the world.

He may need a little longer to rediscover his very best form, but he has definitely put himself on the right path.
