Jordan Spieth got his 2026 PGA Tour season underway with an opening round of 68 at the Sony Open.
Spieth is still one of the biggest needle-movers on the PGA Tour.
In fact, he’s a real superstar across the entire professional game, despite the fact that he hasn’t won in nearly four years.
Spieth is confident about his game heading into the new PGA Tour season and he detailed lots of positives after his first round.
What do you expect from Jordan Spieth in 2026?
Will he win on the PGA Tour this season?
“I had a healthy offseason, so working on kind of my hand path. My hands had not been doing what they did when I was at my best for quite a while now, and now they kind of can.
“It’s a combination of how it carries the club and where it gets to in space. It’s one thing to be doing it on the driving range. It’s another today to do it when you’re playing. It’s another to do it in tournament play.
“Today was significantly better than a month ago as far as that goes, and I was able to be more outwardly focused. I think it’s only going to get better from here. I really, really was very pleased with what I saw today, and I like what’s coming. I just need to tighten it up on and around the greens.”
It sounds like Spieth is happy where his swing is at right now.
However, it’s fair to argue that he might have ignored his most concerning issue and it could come back to bite him this year.
Jordan Spieth has ignored his real problem ahead of the 2026 PGA Tour season
Spieth may well have worked really hard on his game throughout the off-season.
And he may well have taken huge strides regarding his swing over the past few months.
Is there a case to be made that Spieth is over-analysing his swing, though?

He seems to be getting so wrapped up in the mechanics of the swing that he has forgotten what made him so great.
When Spieth was at his very best, he relied on instinct.
The 32-year-old excelled when working different shaped shots into tucked pins and he did so in a really natural manner.
Spieth worked on feel, not rigid mechanics.
It could actually be argued that the one thing Spieth really needed to work on during the off-season was his putting.

His last six seasons on the greens have been really poor.
From the 2025 season going backwards, Spieth has ranked 65th, 101st, 79th, 155th, 33rd, and 105th in strokes gained putting.
What do you think is the real reason why Jordan Spieth has not won on the PGA Tour since 2022?
Considering how dominant he was on the greens from 2015-17, that is quite the drop-off.
After his round, Spieth highlighted how his putting let him down, after he ranked 89th in strokes gained putting on day one.
He said: “I mean, for how difficult of a day it was I felt like I was in position to shoot 5-under or so.
“Felt like I just didn’t score as well, and that typically comes down knocking putts in. It wasn’t easy when the wind was blowing, but I definitely hit a few that were a little bit rusty for sure.“
If Spieth is to have any chance of winning again, let alone climbing back into the top-10 in the world rankings, he needs to start holing more putts.
And the sooner he realizes that, the better.
