It is hard to have any sympathy for Jon Rahm after his latest comments concerning his ongoing row with the DP World Tour ahead of LIV Golf Hong Kong this week.

While eight LIV Golf players reached a deal with the DP World Tour to ensure that they can play in events this year, Jon Rahm dug his heels in and rejected the offer.

Who is the BEST DRIVER in the world right now?

Vote now for Rory or Bryson…

And the Spaniard has now shed light on the decision.

Jon Rahm explains why he has not agreed a deal with the DP World Tour

Rahm hit out at the DP World Tour and accused them of playing a game. He revealed that the DP World Tour want those LIV players to play six of their events, with two of those starts being determined by those at Wentworth.

Rahm insisted that he would immediately sign if he was required to play in four events. However, he does not like the prospect of being told where to play.

“I just don’t like the situation. I think we should be able to freely play where we want and have the choice to play where we want and not be dictated what we do. Especially myself. I can’t speak for others; only myself,” he said.

Unfortunately for Rahm, that last statement ultimately sounds ridiculous.

The DP World Tour is not without fault. They were initially prepared to shut the door on a number of legendary figures after they signed with LIV, but seemingly made sure that Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton were going to be able to play in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

But the DP World Tour has needed to protect itself over the last few years. While the bigger stars left the PGA Tour, it was the European circuit that arguably suffered more from LIV Golf’s formation.

You would imagine that they would be prepared to agree a deal with Rahm over the events that he plays in.

But the biggest problem with what Rahm has said concerns the tour he is now playing on.

Rahm cannot complain about the DP World Tour demands after signing with LIV Golf

Rahm complaining about having his schedule dictated to him is incredibly rich when the LIV Golf calendar is set in stone. Unless he is injured or suffering with illness, he will be teeing it up at the same 14 events as the rest of the LIV roster.

This was obviously not a problem when LIV offered Rahm a deal worth a reported $500 million in December 2023.

Rahm may just be calling the DP World Tour’s bluff; looking to secure the very best deal for himself that ensures that he can play in only a handful of events and still feature in the Ryder Cup.

But Rahm simply cannot position himself as some sort of underdog when he proved with his move to LIV that he will commit to playing where he is told if the money is right.
