Jon Rahm got off to a very positive start with his opening round at the PGA Championship, with the Spaniard one under par on Thursday at Aronimink.

Jon Rahm was one of the players who had a point to prove at the second major of the year, with the 31-year-old enduring a disappointing week at The Masters.

If he is, where does Bryson rank?

The LIV star has made a poor start to yet another major…

Obviously, there is a long way to go in Philadelphia. But Rahm is off to a strong start, with the high point coming on his 11th hole of the day as he holed out for eagle.

He also finished his round with successive birdies.

Jon Rahm right to apologise immediately after incident at Aronimink

But there was a disappointing incident involving Rahm on Thursday at Aronimink, with the LIV Golf star managing to catch a volunteer with a divot after being left frustrated with his approach.

Rahm went to take an air swing and ended up sending some turf towards the volunteer. He was very quick to apologise for his actions.

And after the round, he made sure to outline just how disappointed he was by what happened.

“Yeah, it hit him, and unfortunately it hit him in the shoulder and then the face. Which I couldn’t feel any worse. That’s why I was there apologising. I need to somehow track him down to give him a present because that’s inexcusable and for something that could be completely avoidable,” he said.

“Whether it was my intention or not, it was just not good.”

Sergio Garcia needs to take notes from how Rahm handled the situation at the PGA Championship

Rahm deserves a lot of credit for holding his hands up and admitting how badly he felt about the incident.

It certainly puts countryman and fellow LIV Golf star Sergio Garcia to shame.

Garcia came in for criticism after damaging the second tee box during the final round of The Masters last month. The 2017 champion went on to break his driver after being left annoyed by his tee shot.

What he did not do, however, was offer an immediate apology. Speaking to the media after his round, Garcia admitted he was not proud about his actions. But he suggested that ‘sometimes it happens’.

Garcia would apologise on social media in the days after The Masters. However, the time to hold his hands up was before he left Augusta National on that Sunday, particularly as a past champion.

Rahm has done exactly that after his actions at Aronimink. You really do get the sense that he is being genuine when he suggests how awful he feels.
