Wyndham Clark may just have one eye on the 2027 Ryder Cup following his impressive victory at the US Open.
Clark is now a two-time major champion after triumphing at Shinnecock Hills, where he edged out fellow American Sam Burns by one shot.
The US Open winner has understandably earned plenty of praise since coming out on top in Long Island, particularly given what he was up against.
Clark had to fend off a handful of rivals in the final round of the US Open, including world number one Scottie Scheffler, along with an abusive crowd in New York.
And the overall situation suggests that Clark absolutely deserves a place in Jim Furyk’s Ryder Cup team for the 2027 edition at Adare Manor.
How did you feel about the New York crowd’s treatment of Wyndham Clark?
Wyndham Clark has played his way into the USA Ryder Cup team
First and foremost, despite a slight slip-up on Sunday, Clark produced world-class displays throughout the week.
The wind provided an extra challenge at the already challenging course, where the winner was joined by just two other players in shooting under par.
Emerging victorious on four-under, Clark has a lot to be satisfied with and indeed proud of regarding his victory.
But perhaps more important was the mental resilience that he showed to battle through the unsavory scenes at Shinnecock.
Many fans actively cheered against the eventual winner, and were often heard shouting phrases like “anyone but Wyndham” and “get in the bunker”.
And while it was a shock to witness such a scenario at a US Open, not least with an American player, it is often part and parcel at a Ryder Cup.
Furyk will need mentally strong players to make the trip to Ireland next year, with the home fans certain to produce a very hostile atmosphere from the very first tee shot.

What is Wyndham Clark’s Ryder Cup record?
Clark has made just one appearance for the USA at the Ryder Cup, having qualified automatically for the side in 2023.
That tournament did, of course, end in defeat for the visitors, who were comfortably beaten 16.5-11.5 by Europe in Rome.
Clark played three matches at the event in the Italian capital, which he finished with a 1-1-1 record, earning 1.5 points for the USA.
Whether or not he makes another appearance at Adare Manor remains to be seen, but it’s clear right now that the visitors could do a lot worse than having Clark on board.
