Bryson DeChambeau’s turbulent 2026 took another twist on Friday, with the LIV Golf star missing the cut at the PGA Championship.

Before this season, you would have had to go back to 2017 for the last time Bryson DeChambeau missed successive cuts in the major championships.

The two-time US Open champion was a surprise casualty at the halfway stage of The Masters. And while DeChambeau was far from the only player to struggle at Aronimink this week, it was jarring to see him at 10 over par at one stage during the second round.

He has won twice on LIV Golf this year. Nevertheless, it appears that all of his leverage is disappearing at a rapid rate amid doubts over the league’s future.

After Brooks Koepka‘s decision to leave LIV Golf, the PGA Tour opened the door for DeChambeau to take the same route. At the time, it would have been a monumental win for those at Ponte Vedra had he taken them up on the offer.

Of course, LIV’s situation has changed dramatically since then. And with DeChambeau’s contract expiring at the end of the year, there is a huge question mark over where he will be playing next season.

DeChambeau was certainly aware of his stock when he recently claimed that he should not face sanctions from the PGA Tour.

He also claimed that the tour was not doing well either. It was clearly a sign that he felt that the PGA Tour needed him more than he needed them.

It would certainly help if DeChambeau was performing well in the majors. The 32-year-old had previously found a way to peak at the right time in the four biggest events of the year.

So it is alarming to see him struggle in the majors. He has now missed three cuts in his last four majors.

DeChambeau’s argument that he was in a strong position was already flawed due to the fact that LIV’s momentum has stalled over the last few years. His victory at the US Open in 2024 proved to be no real turning point for the league.

His presence on LIV has not stolen a significant number of fans from the PGA Tour.

And if DeChambeau is going to be a long way adrift of the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, then the PGA Tour has absolutely no reason to acquiesce to his demands.

Based on the last two majors, DeChambeau certainly needs the PGA Tour a lot more than they need him.
