There aren’t many people in the world of golf who haven’t praised Rory McIlroy at some point and Englishman Oli Fisher has been singing his praises too.
Fisher came up in the game with McIlroy as youngsters before he made his own way on the European Tour and McIlroy went on to become one of the very best to ever hit a golf ball.
Of course, their career paths have in different directions and Fisher, who is trying to work his way back into the game really, would take just an ounce of the success Rory has had.
However, rather than begrudge the Northern Irishman anything, Fisher was full of praise for McIlroy as he explained what makes the four-time major winner just so special.

Speaking about McIlroy on the Tubes and Ange Golf Life channel on YouTube, Fisher couldn’t speak highly enough of McIlroy.
“People often ask me who the best player is I played with. I think it’s a really tough question. Generally you play with guys who are really good drivers but then their iron play doesn’t match up. Or you play with people who are unbelievable with with the short game. I think I put a blend of people together but you know, Rory is amazing,” Fisher said
“All the things he has going on in his life. Extra curricular stuff, business stuff. You’re like ‘WOW’, somehow you come out and play even with all the stuff going on with LIV and the PGA Tour, and he’s had an amazing couple of years all things aside. To keep his golf at the level he’s kept it at, it’s so commendable. When you watch the top guys, they just seem to be able to keep it going.”
Of course, according to the OWGR, McIlroy isn’t quite the very top dog in the golfing world as it stands.
That honour goes to Scottie Scheffler at the moment, with Jon Rahm not far behind, albeit he will drop given the lack of points available on the LIV Tour.
Fisher’s comments here on what happens outside of golf for Rory are interesting as well. Sometimes it’s hard to take all that into account but clearly, Fisher recognises the pressures of the outside world.
McIlroy, then, seems very much like a character who is made of the strongest stuff.
