Xander Schauffele has revealed what he told his caddie Austin Kaiser immediately after finishing his final round at the Wells Fargo Championship where he missed out on the title to Rory McIlroy at Quail Hollow.
Xander Schauffele is probably still allowing the fact that he is now a major champion to sink in, with the 30-year-old winning by one at the PGA Championship at Valhalla last week.
It felt like a big moment in Schauffele’s career, with the American previously finishing in the top 10 on eight occasions in 2024 without getting across the line. He had also come close on a number of occasions in the major championships.
And it seemed significant that he had finished second at the Wells Fargo Championship the week before the PGA Championship.
Xander Schauffele shares what he told his caddie after Wells Fargo Championship
Schauffele flew out of the blocks at Quail Hollow, opening with a 64. But he ultimately finished five shots back of Rory McIlroy, with Schauffele six shots worse in the final round than the Northern Irishman.
However, it seems that Schauffele lost little faith in himself after that disappointment, as he told The Rich Eisen Show what he said to his caddie at the end of the Wells Fargo Championship.

“We were emotional, it’s been a big build-up after losing last week at Quail Hollow. We walked off that 72nd hole, losing by five or whatever, four or six, I can’t remember, but I told him that we’re going to win, we’re going to win soon, I can feel it,” he said.
“I know how well I’m playing, we’re going to get it done. And I know how hard he works and he wears those losses, hopefully not as hard as I wear them, I’m the one hitting the shots, but it’s a big team effort.”
American now tipped for amazing run
Schauffele has shown time and time again that he has the game to compete in the major championships, so it could be huge that he has now got across the line in one of the sport’s biggest events.
Eddie Pepperell believes that Schauffele will now win many more major championships during his career as his game does not appear to have a single weakness.
The belief he will gain from not only winning the PGA Championship, but also doing so when the leaderboard was so stacked and so congested, could be massive.
Certainly, many will go into the US Open as confident about Schauffele as he seemingly was after Quail Hollow.
