Xander Schauffele is finally back in the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour after a 15-month hiatus, and he has his fine form at the Ryder Cup to thank for that.

However, in spite of the fact that he took three points from his Ryder Cup matches, Schauffele made an incredibly candid admission after his win at the Baycurrent Classic on Sunday.

Schauffele was proud of his Baycurrent Classic performance through three rounds and now that pride will have turned into sheer relief.

The 31-year-old is winner once again and he now has 10 career PGA Tour victories to his name.

He struggled badly for form in 2025, with only three top-10 finishes to his name before his win this week in Japan.

However, Schauffele’s impressive Ryder Cup form clearly gave him the impetus to really kick on and get that all important victory before the end of the year.

Schauffele was one of the few American players to emerge from the Ryder Cup with his head held high.

Three points from four matches was a mighty fine return from the two-time major champion.

However, following his win at the Baycurrent Classic on Sunday, Schauffele openly admitted that he felt like he let Patrick Cantlay down at Bethpage Black two weeks ago.

Schauffele responded when asked whether his form at the Ryder Cup played a role in his victory at Yokohama Country Club this week.

He said: I thought at the Ryder Cup I played pretty solid, I let Pat hang in our second alternate match or foursomes match, I played really poor there and let him down, but the other rounds I felt like I was starting to kind of play some good golf. It’s very high stakes, high pressure golf and I started to hit some shots that I wasn’t really hitting throughout the year. I think the whole tournament, even though we lost, for me personally I was able to hit a few shots in high stakes moments that sort of gave me a little bit of confidence for sure.

Schauffele lost one point at Bethpage, in his Saturday foursomes match alongside Cantlay against Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm.

However, he certainly didn’t let Cantlay down. The Californian tried his best all week, and a win ratio of 75% at the 2025 Ryder Cup is something he should be very proud of.

Xander Schauffele’s stats at the Baycurrent Classic

Schauffele more than deserved his victory in Japan this week.

He struck the ball well with his driver and his irons and he putted proficiently.

Those numbers are extremely impressive due to just how consistent he was in every department of his game in Japan.

The key takeaway here is just how much Schauffele’s iron play improved at the Baycurrent Classic, after being ranked 84th in greens hit in regulation throughout the 2025 PGA Tour season.

The challenge for Schauffele now will be to really kick on after his win at the Baycurrent Classic and challenge Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy for the biggest honours next season.
