Xander Schauffele has certainly played his part in ensuring that the PGA Tour has got off to such a rocky start in 2025.
Xander Schauffele missed both The American Express and New York Golf Club’s second match in TGL due to a rib injury. The world number two’s absence came after an underwhelming performance at The Sentry in which the world number two finished in a tie for 30th.
Of course, plenty of eyes were on Schauffele heading into 2025. He was arguably the only player who staked a claim to rival Scottie Scheffler for the player of the year on the PGA Tour last year, with the 31-year-old winning both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

Some would have preferred Schauffele’s year over Scheffler’s. So it was something of a surprise when he was well out of contention at Kapalua – finishing nearly 20 shots behind Hideki Matsuyama.

But it seems that Schauffele was far from being fully fit, as he has not played in an event since. However, it appears that his return may not be too far away now.
Posting on X, The Athletic writer Gabby Herzig noted that Schauffele’s team have said that he has now been cleared to practice again.
Schauffele’s return provides another timely boost for the PGA Tour
Schauffele is not expected to be in the field for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. But it is still set to be a big boost for the PGA Tour.
It has been a difficult January for the tour, with the Farmers Insurance Open the latest event to receive plenty of criticism.
Obviously, slow play has been the big problem. But it has not helped that the tour has not had a number of their star players appear. Neither Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy have featured on the PGA Tour so far in 2025.
The tour needs their biggest names to hit the ground running when they feature in the coming weeks. And it seems that Schauffele will be amongst those who do tee it up before too long.
