PGA Tour star Xander Schauffele has shared his opinion on a potential rule change in golf to move balls out of divots.

At the moment, it’s very much a play it as it lies scenario and often one of the most common topics of discussion when people talk about the rules of golf.

Over the years, we’ve seen a ball roll into divots and cost players big time. In short, the ball landing in a divot makes the entire shot harder in terms of controlling the trajectory, distance, spin and more.

However, while a lot of golfers – especially the amateurs or those pros who have fallen foul – will say a rule change on this would be welcome, Schauffele doesn’t seem so sure.

In an interview with Fore Play Golf’s Dan Rapaport, Xander Schauffele had it put to him about changing the rule so the ball can moved from a divot.

And in a short and sharp response, Schauffele simply replied…’JUST HIT IT!’.

Indeed, it seems the American is very much in the camp of keeping the current ruling.

Divot rule frustrating but also part of the beauty of golf

There is nothing more frustrating than creaming your tee shot down the fairway and then seeing your ball smack bang in the middle of a divot when you get to it.

We’ve all been there, and if the top pros like Rory McIlroy find it hard, then you can bet your everyday golfer finds it even tougher.

However, it’s also part of the beauty of the game as well. Yes, there is so much skill involved in the game of golf but there’s also that air of unpredictability that comes in as well. It simply adds to the drama, the excitement and at the top level, it tests the elite players’ skill-levels to the max.

Xander Schauffele has probably got a point really. Just hit the thing.
