Xander Schauffele has shared what he plans to do differently in preparation for The Masters next month as he looks to take that next step and clinch the green jacket.

Xander Schauffele is certainly going to be a lot of people’s pick to do well at Augusta National in April. The American is having about as good a year as is possible without actually winning.

The 30-year-old has already finished in the top 10 five times on the PGA Tour this season. That included a second place finish at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Of course, Schauffele had a putt on the last to force a play-off with Scottie Scheffler.

He has also has an impressive track record at Augusta. Schauffele finished in a tie for second in 2019, and has registered two more top 10 finishes at the event since.

It seems that he may have decided to take a slightly different approach in the build-up to The Masters this year. Schauffele will not play in either of the tournaments in the two weeks before Augusta.

He was asked in a press conference about that decision considering that he normally only sits out one event.

“Yes, I am [taking two weeks off]. I am going to take two weeks off going into Augusta. I don’t have some secret formula of what works. I have talked to plenty of major champions about how they have done it, and guys who have won multiple majors say that they have done it differently,” he said.

“I’ll be around my team and getting geared up and rested. After last week it does take a little bit more out of you. Even on a day like today I am laid back and relaxed but still feel a bit more tired than a usual Tuesday. So still just trying to regroup and make sure I am ready to fire.”

One to look out for at Augusta

Where The Masters is different to the other majors is the fact that the event is played at the same course every single year.

So those who have previously done well can take a lot of confidence into the event. And Schauffele is one of those who knows that he can get it round Augusta.

Perhaps by the time the next Masters comes around, it will be Schauffele who is approached by others as players look for the advice of major champions.
