The Skins Game is done and dusted for 2025 as Keegan Bradley walked out as the overall winner but the event also raised plenty of other talking points.

With Bradley playing alongside Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele, it was a welcome change to the rigours of the PGA Tour for the average golf fan.

In the end, Bradley was the big success story from the event as he won 11 skins to take home a total of $2.1m.

The Team USA captain has had a bit of a tumultuous few months following the Ryder Cup so to get back to winning in any capacity is good news for him.

Is Xander Schauffele actually further away from Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy than ever before?

“Guys like Scottie Scheffler, I have achieved a lot, but in a sick way, he’s made it not very special in my competitive mind because I’m still so far away from him. Then you tie in confidence is this little plant. My plant’s got absolutely stomped out. I’m trying to train my brain right now to think why not come back and play really well?”

However, one of the big talking points was the performance of Xander Schauffele, who played pretty miserably by his standards.

Nevertheless, despite this, Schauffele remained upbeat and with the players mic’d up, Schauffele was hugely entertaining at times.

Now, he has been praised for his attitude after what we saw from Bryson DeChambeau in 2024.

This was always going to be a bit of fun but the reality is really that it lacked a bit of star power.

Sure, the four golfers on offer are big enough names but it had a feeling of needing a Rory, Tiger or Scottie to really elevate it.

However, after golf journalist Matt Vincenzi pointed out how the event might have benefitted from Bryson DeChambeau’s inclusion, Colt Knost hit back as he pointed out what Bryson actually did during The Showdown.

Why The Skins Game needs bigger names

Look, it’s nice to have some golf to get into now the season is done and dusted and the four names here are all major champions with huge talent.

However, for The Skins Game to really take off, it’s going to need even more star power. Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy would be ideal, and if Tiger Woods can get fit, then even better.

Another idea would be to have two of the big names and perhaps two of the top amateurs in the world competing. This would be a unique way for those amateurs to make money and pit their wits against the best.

For now, The Skins Game was a relative success but going forward, it could be improved further.

If not, then fans will simply switch off and wait for the season – or the TGL – to get going.
