Wyndham Clark has revealed the attribute he has noticed both Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler having, as he also shared what makes the pair particularly amazing.
Wyndham Clark, on one major championship, is somehow the weaker link of the US men’s golf team at the Olympic Games, with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa all boasting two major championships.
Some believe Morikawa could take home gold this week, but Scheffler and Schauffele are surely the two favourites at Le Golf National, with the pair enjoying outstanding years.
Scheffler won six times on the PGA Tour before July – becoming the first player since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to do so. Meanwhile, Schauffele has the edge when it comes to major championship wins, having clinched both the PGA Championship and The Open.
Wyndham Clark shares what makes Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele so special
Some think Scheffler would trade years with Schauffele, but there is surely no question that the pair are the two best male players on the planet right now.
Speaking about the pair in his press conference ahead of this week, Clark revealed what makes the two players so special.

“I think one thing I notice especially with Xander and Scottie because I’ve played with them so much this year is they are really consistent in everything they do, and any time that they do have maybe days that it doesn’t look as good, they don’t waver. They don’t change anything. They don’t think anything. They just go, yeah, bad day, wash it off, wake up and go about it the next day and they turn around and play good. That’s one thing,” he said.
“And then I think both those guys hit it so good. You know, there’s really no question of why they are amazing. They both are probably top 10 in strokes gained approach, and if not one or two, and that’s I think one of the biggest things in our game is if you hit it good, and makes golf pretty easy.”
The one question the world’s two best players still face
The question with both Schauffele and Scheffler surely concerns how long they can sustain this kind of form for, because golf appears to be enjoying a golden period with the amount of truly outstanding players on the tours.
It is easy to forget now, but Scheffler went into the 2021 Ryder Cup having not won a single event on the PGA Tour, while Schauffele was having to deal with questions about his ability to get across the line as recently as the days before the PGA Championship.
The likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Morikawa and Justin Thomas also have two majors, so there are so many world-class players within the game – and there have been times when they have all looked destined to become the best in the world.
If Scheffler or Schauffele can match their success with longevity over the next few years, we could definitely be talking about all-time greats of the game.
