Wyndham Clark’s fairly miserable run at the majors continued at The Masters, with the 2023 US Open champion ending the week at Augusta National at five over par.

Wyndham Clark was one of the players who definitely went into 2025 with a point to prove in the major championships. While he has won one of the sport’s four biggest events, he has done little of note in them since.

He missed the cut on his Masters debut in 2024, and it was a similar story at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

The 31-year-old was able to make the weekend at Augusta National this time around. However, it proved to be another disappointing trip to Georgia for Clark.

Wyndham Clark suggests the big problem he had after a disappointing finish at The Masters

The high point came in Friday’s round of 68 to ensure that he made the cut. But he shot 76, 75 and 74 on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday respectively to leave himself just inside the top 50.

And it seems that Clark was in no doubt at all as to the biggest problem he had throughout the week, as he suggested that he had an issue which he has never faced in his career on the putting surfaces.

“It’s the greens. You hit it in to 12 feet and you’re playing two feet of break and if you miss it, it goes by four or five feet and you can easily three-putt. Then you put yourself in a spot where you have a really tough lag putt and it’s easy to three-putt,” he said.

“I had, I think, nine three-putts this week, which is unprecedented for me, and then yeah, it’s just a very tough place. You have to hit a lot of greens and you have to really control your speed.”

The issue Wyndham Clark needs to address after another underwhelming performance at Augusta

Clark is having a reasonably good year on the PGA Tour. Admittedly, he only has one top 10 thus far – which came at the Texas Children’s Houston Open – but he has four top 25s in total.

He has also only missed the cut once, which came back at The American Express.

But Clark is the world number 11. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am just last year. He has the potential to compete with the best players on the planet.

But outside of the victory at LACC, Clark has simply not been able to get it done in the majors throughout his career. His best finish other than his win was a tied 33rd at the 2023 Open Championship.

It is something he is going to need to put right before too long if he wants to be put alongside those at the very top of the game.
