The Open Championship is less than a week away now and with the Scottish Open providing a bit of insight into what may happen at Royal Portrush, Bryson DeChambeau will be watching on with intrigue.
The Renaissance Club in Scotland is currently hosting the the final event before The Open, while LIV Golf has taken it’s roster to Andalucia in Spain.
As expected, a number of the top stars are competing at the right end of the leaderboard in both Spain and Scotland, with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Talor Gooch, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm all in the mix.
However, one man who is over in Spain and will be looking on at the action in Scotland is a certain Bryson DeChambeau.
DeChambeau will go to Royal Portrush as one of the favourites to win the event and after seeing what’s been happening at the Scottish Open, there’s all the more reason for him to be confident.

Bryson DeChambeau should be encouraged as Rory McIlroy leads the Scottish Open
In the modern game of golf, many will say distance is everything.
The ability to get the ball as close to the hole as possible and then simply deal with things from there is very much a tactic many employ across all the tours.
Of course, there are times when accuracy is everything as well, meaning the big hitters can sometimes be left adrift.
However, up in Scotland, the leaderboard tells its own story and that is a tale of those who hit it far are getting the job done.
Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup sit one and two and are two of the biggest hitters in the field, while players like Jake Knapp, Marco Penge, and Ludvig Aberg are all players who comfortably clear the 320 yard mark regularly.
McIlroy admitted his strategy was to hit the ball as far as possible and right now, with the rough generous and the fairways firm, it’s proving a roaring success.
For someone who hits the ball as long as Bryson DeChambeau, it’s simply music to his ears ahead of what could be a very similar test at Portrush.

Bryson DeChambeau’s driving stats in 2025
When it comes to hitting the ball far, nobody on LIV Golf hits it further than Bryson.
Right now, he’s averaging 331.1 yards off the tee, three yards further than Joaquin Niemann in second.
In terms of fairways hit, DeChambeau is also pretty accurate, sitting ninth in the LIV standings with a 64% rate of hitting fairways.
However, while Bryson’s driving is excellent, there is another element of his game that makes him a contender for Royal Portrush. Scrambling.
DeChambeau sits top of the pile in that category on the LIV tour and if he’s hitting his usual bombs and managing to get up and down from tough places, then it could be a long week for the rest of the field.
