Brooks Koepka has sensationally applied to be reinstalled as a member of the PGA Tour.

The golfing world was stunned when it was announced in December that Koepka had officially left LIV Golf.

However, the question now is: What next for Koepka and indeed the PGA Tour?

There have been claims that Koepka could play on the DP World Tour in 2026, in order to maintain his sharpness.

Why should Brooks Koepka be allowed back on the PGA Tour?

He made his bed, now he should have to lie in it…right?

Koepka may not be able to return to the PGA Tour until 2027, due to the fact that players who left to join LIV in 2022 were handed five-year bans.

However, is that still the case? Or could the five-time major champion be set to make a PGA Tour return earlier than expected?

What will happen now as Brooks Koepka reapplies for PGA Tour membership

Incredibly, Koepka has now reapplied for PGA Tour membership.

But what happens next?

ESPN has provided us with that information…

Sources told ESPN that once Koepka reapplies for membership, the Tour will start its reinstatement and disciplinary process, which will include “thoughtful input from the board, including player directors.

There clearly won’t be a short-term solution to Koepka’s current situation.

It would be no surprise to see him play events worldwide over the next 6-12 months, before he can ever consider returning to the PGA Tour.

However, there is a school of thought that his five major wins have to count for something, and it will be fascinating to see the PGA Tour’s next step.

Brooks Koepka was doing something ‘wild’ behind the scenes on LIV

Koepka’s 2025 season with LIV Golf was hugely disappointing.

Perhaps it was just a case of him working too hard. Speaking on The Rick Shiels Golf Show, Rick Shiels has shared how committed Koepka was to honing his game last year.

“I think with Brooks, this is what I saw on the ground last year, he seemed very frustrated with something. Something was bothering him. And he was trying really, really, really hard to perform out on the golf course,” he said.

Is this the end of LIV Golf?

“I saw him on multiple occasions throughout the year being the last person to leave the driving range. As I’ve said a million times before, these guys practice like crazy.

I really felt like he wasn’t happy with something. He wasn’t happy with his game, he wasn’t happy with his performances, he wasn’t happy with how maybe he was being treated.

“He was kind of quite quiet last year, quite subdued, didn’t really show a lot of his own personality. We didn’t see the performances out of him out on the golf course that we’ve come to expect from Brooks Koepka.

We didn’t see him perform at the majors as we’ve come to expect from Brooks Koepka. And he just seemed really, really frustrated.”

There is definitely an argument to be made that Koepka was working too hard on his game in 2025.

Now the main thing for him will be how long he has to wait before being reinstated as a fully-fledged PGA Tour member.
