Tiger Woods knows a thing or two about winning major golf championships but despite his greatness, he’s never managed to win all four in a season.

Woods burst onto the scene in 1997 as he won by a remarkable 12 shots in one of the most stunning four rounds of golf ever produced around Augusta National.

Woods then went on to win four more Masters titles, culminating in his brilliant redemption story back in 2019 when he won for the final time.

Of course, Tiger is famous for his ‘Tiger Slam’ between 2000 and 2001, where he won all four majors within 12 months of each other but failed to snatch them all in the same exact season.

That achievement has passed everyone by but Woods, speaking after his first green jacket, always believed it to be possible.

What Tiger Woods said about doing the golf grand slam

Speaking back in 1997 after sealing his very first Masters title, Woods was asked about winning all four majors in one season.

And while Woods was confident it could be done, not just by him for that matter, he explained why it is also such a tough ask.

“On paper it is possible. Anyone can do it. But the only problem is there is a lot there’s a lot of variables and circumstances that a player has to deal with,” Woods said.

“Not only are they playing against the best fields that has ever been assembled at this tournaments. You’re playing against the golf course which is not exactly set up easily either. And more importantly you have got to have luck on your side too. I got a few good breaks this week.

“When I win, I know I have gone through some tough times and some good times but there’s a few lucky bounces and the golf God’s are looking after you in that week.”

The golfers who have won all four majors in their career

Winning a grand slam in golf is nigh on impossible, as the stats show. The fact someone like Tiger didn’t manage it when he was so dominant, shows how hard it is.

However, Bobby Jones did manage it pre-Masters in 1930, winning The British Open, the US Open and the British and US Amateur titles in the same calendar year prior to the Masters coming along.

Of course, Tiger Woods is among a select few golfers who have won all four majors at separate points in their career.

Woods is joined by Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen and Ben Hogan as golfers to get their hands on all four trophies at some point.

Given the calibre of golfer who hasn’t won the season grand slam and the level of modern golfers across the board, it seems unlikely we’ll ever see it done.
