If you’re an avid follower of the game of golf, then the 2019 Masters victory for Tiger Woods is hard to top when you think of iconic moments in the sport.
Woods’ memorable comeback win at Augusta National in 2019 still resonates to this day and is a tale of resilience and strength from arguably the greatest golfer to ever live.
Six years on, and with Woods having not added a single major to his record since, it feels even more pertanent, given it’s probably the last time we’ll see the 15-time major winner come out on top.
Of course, during that event, Woods held off a fierce challenge from a number of players, including a certain Brooks Koepka.
Koepka finished just a shot shy of Woods and after welcoming Tiger off the course after the 18th hole, Koepka revealed what was said between them that nobody really knows.

Brooks Koepka shares Tiger Woods story after his Masters win in 2019
Koepka was speaking on the Behind The Cut podcast a couple of years back now and got onto the subject of Woods’ famous win and his own near miss.
And in revealing what happened afterwards, Koepka shared what Woods said to him.
“I’m sure everybody else felt like that for the last 20 years or so! It was pretty funny, not many people actually know this, but we get done. I am just kind of waiting for him, it’s an historic moment,” Koepka explained.
“He comes back from everything to win. He hadn’t won one in I don’t know how many years, maybe 10 years. But he walks off the green, I give him a hug and some love everything. And he goes ‘it’s 1-1’. He didn’t forget man, I love that.
“I got him the year before and then he got me that year. So it was pretty cool. It was a cool moment we were able to share, which was quite fun. It sucks losing, let’s be real, nobody wants to lose. But if you are going to lose to the GOAT then it is what it is.”
Of course, Koepka had beaten Woods by two shots at the PGA Championship in 2018, his second major win of the year.
Clearly, being the competitor he is, Woods had not forgotten and was obviously delighted to get one over his fellow American.
Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka’s combined major record
Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods are both modern greats in their own right and with five majors to his own name, Koepka has more than proved himself.
Add them to Woods’ haul, and we’re suddenly at 20 majors between two players, alongside a number of second places as mentioned above.
| Major | Tiger Woods wins | Brooks Koepka wins |
| US Open | 3 | 2 |
| PGA Championship | 4 | 3 |
| The Masters | 5 | 0 |
| The Open | 3 | 0 |
When history looks back on the best players to ever play the game of golf, Tiger Woods is always going to be mentioned.
However, we shouldn’t overlook what Brooks Koepka has done and still in his mid-30s, he has a chance to land even more majors and cement himself further.
