Scottie Scheffler will get his 2026 PGA Tour season underway on Thursday at the American Express.

Scheffler has been the dominant figure in the game over the past few years, and he has 19 PGA Tour wins to his name since February 2022.

It’s fair to argue that Scheffler seems to be primed to continue his dominance on the PGA Tour over the next few years.

The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, has the chance to complete the career Grand Slam this year at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

If Scheffler manages to retain his world number one spot until mid-October 2028, he will eclipse Tiger Woods’ record of most consecutive week spent at the top of the world rankings.

However, his sole focus right now will be attempting to win the American Express in La Quinta, California.

If he brings his ‘A’ game, he will win, but how does his form look heading into his 2026 season opener?

What Scottie Scheffler shot during nine-hole American Express practice round

The current world number one excels at making the game look ridiculously easy.

He never seems to do anything particularly special during his rounds, but more often than not he will walk off the golf course well under par.

That was the case at La Quinta on Tuesday afternoon.

Scheffler set out for his nine-hole practice round and produced a sensational score.

His ball-striking seemed to be exceptional on the whole, while he was very much locked in with the putter.

The Texan carded four birdies, an eagle and four pars.

He even managed to make a ‘club drop’ birdie on the par-five eighth hole.

A nine-hole score of six-under-par 30 at La Quinta is pretty good going, and he would take that in a heartbeat on Thursday, if you offered it to him now.

Scheffler is a spectacular driver of the golf ball.

However, he’ll be hoping to be even better off the tee in 2026.

During testing ahead of the new season, Scheffler achieved a 3.3 mph gain in ball speed with the Qi4D driver.

Who will win more on the PGA Tour in 2026 out of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood?

That equates to roughly six extra yards of carry.

Could we see Scheffler actually become an even better driver of the golf ball on the PGA Tour in 2026?

If he makes even a 0.1% gain with his long game, his rivals will be in for a tough challenge if they want to keep up with him.

It will be fascinating to watch Scheffler at the American Express this week to see if he can secure the magical 20th PGA Tour victory of his career.
