It was a day to remember for Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy after they both made holes-in-one during the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
McIlroy’s ace came on the 15th hole at Spyglass Hill. Four-under for his round, McIlroy took dead aim at the 119-yard par-three and saw his ball disappear into the bottom of the cup.
As for Lowry, Pebble Beach’s iconic 7th hole was the scene of his hole-in-one. The 37-year-old played a delightful 113-yard pitch, which bounced once before checking up and rolling into the hole.
Per golfing tradition, Lowry and McIlroy left a treat for those working in the media at Pebble Beach this weekend.
What Shane Lowry and McIlroy did for the media at Pebble Beach

Typically, when any golfer makes a hole-in-one, they’re expected to undertake an ‘unofficial’ duty. That duty is to buy everyone who’s at the club a drink at the bar.
And it was no different for McIlroy and Lowry.
The Athletic’s Gabby Herzig posted a picture of a bucket of cold beverages left by the European duo. Lowry also wrote on X: “Couple of cold ones @McIlroyRory.”

Why Shane Lowry’s hole-in-one was unique
It’s been some week for Lowry so far. The 2019 Open champ played Cypress Point in front of Scottie Scheffler on Tuesday and has now made an ace on arguably one of golf’s most famous holes.
What’s more, Lowry has become the first person to make a hole-in-one on the 7th at Pebble, 16th at Augusta National and 17th at TPC Sawgrass. It’s, quite frankly, a ridiculous record.
Lowry’s feat on the 7th has also put him in a strong position heading into the second round. He’s currently two shots off leader Russell Henley and in a six-way tie for eighth.
McIlroy is also among the same group, as is world number one Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy does anticipate a tougher test at Pebble Beach on Friday, however.
