When it comes to the PGA Tour players TGL would have arguably benefitted from having in the ranks, Jordan Spieth is surely one of the names who should be right at the top of the list.

Despite some disappointing seasons, Jordan Spieth remains one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour, with many fascinated to see how he will fare upon his return from injury having struggled with his wrist problem for some time.

Spieth, of course, flew out of the blocks in the early stages of his career, winning two majors in 2015 before a third came in 2017. And Spieth remains one of the few players who actually moves the needle when it comes to viewing figures.

But perhaps his struggles help explain why Spieth did not take up the chance to feature in TGL.

What PGA Tour players have told Jordan Spieth about TGL

Without him, there has been mixed results. Week four displayed the potential the league could have, with Tiger Woods‘ Jupiter Links winning in overtime. But it was, at times, a bit of a drag to reach the stage where TGL really looked to make sense.

And it seems that some of the players are enjoying the experience. Speaking ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Spieth spoke about the potential changes to the PGA Tour as it looks to engage fans, including the start of TGL.

“I think from my understanding is the Tour is trying to do a lot of polling to the fans and also a lot of conversations with networks. Obviously linear television’s changed from the last time a deal was done to the next time anything can happen. Trying to figure out what’s the best product that we can put forward, whether it’s on the course here or it’s through other – different things like TGL and how do you reach a different audience,” he said.

“Some people who love this product may not take into watching TGL. I’ve talked to others who love TGL that may not tune in on Saturdays and Sundays to a PGA Tour round. I think just broadening that to kind of bridge the gap and invite some new fans in. My understanding is they’re doing the right things as far as who they’re talking to, how they’re figuring it out. Then open to adjusting, you know? Open to making changes and changes quickly to just try to get what’s the best product we could have.

“Is it all quick or reactive? I mean, it’s been a long time of the same thing, so at some point you’ve got to make changes and be open to it. Is that now? Seems like guys that have wanted to do TGL are loving it, they’re loving playing in it. They say it’s very different but it’s also super fun. Maybe it should have been done sooner. You could argue that, too.”

The players who could join if Jordan Spieth is tempted to sign up for TGL in 2026

There are some impressive players who decided to sit out from TGL this year. Of course, the biggest name is the world number one Scottie Scheffler.

So there is scope for another very impressive team to join TGL in the future, with Scheffler and Spieth. Meanwhile, someone like Viktor Hovland could also bring a lot of fun to the league, particularly if he finds some better form.

It would then be good to see another player on the rise, such as Akshay Bhatia, complete the lineup in the same way that Ludvig Aberg and Tom Kim have impressed so far.

Certainly, it would be a big boost for TGL if Spieth was one of the players who decided to sign up ahead of 2026.
