Justin Rose has had a remarkable season when you consider that he finished second at The Masters, third at Pebble Beach, and has now won the first FedEx Cup playoff event in Memphis.

The European Ryder Cup team will, once again, include Justin Rose, with the Englishman securing his spot at Bethpage by winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

Rose managed to overcome J.J. Spaun on the third playoff hole to secure his 12th PGA Tour win. It could be argued that it was a long time coming, with the 45-year-old coming agonisingly close to winning his second major title at The Masters earlier this year.

Rose also finished inside the top 10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Genesis Scottish Open. Meanwhile, he was tied for 16th at The Open Championship.

But it has not been all positive for Rose this year.

He actually has more missed cuts than top 10s on the PGA Tour this season. So it is difficult to know just what to make of his year as a whole.

But taking to X after the first playoff event, Michael Kim suggested that Rose continues to prove why he has been one of the world’s best golfers for the best part of two decades now.

Justin Rose’s surprising PGA Tour statistics in 2025

It is incredible when you look at Rose’s strokes gained numbers this year. He is not inside the top 40 in a single category, with his putting proving to be his best attribute.

And yet, it really felt as if J.J. Spaun was going to need to produce a moment of magic to beat Rose in the playoff on Sunday.

Barring his first tee shot which very nearly ended up rolling back into the water, Rose looked to be in complete control of his game and ended up winning an attritional battle.

It is seven years since Rose won the FedEx Cup. It would be foolish to write off his chances of triumphing again when the world’s best get to East Lake later this month.
