Justin Rose is the consummate professional, and he leaves no stone unturned when preparing for major championships.

Rose is at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island this week, attempting to win the second US Open title of his career.

If truth be told, the 45-year-old Englishman deserves far more than the solitary major championship he has won throughout his career.

Who will be the biggest name to miss the cut at the US Open?

Shinnecock Hills is going to be a brutal test!

Who knows, though, perhaps this week at Shinnecock Hills will be the perfect opportunity for him to add to his major trophy haul.

The 2013 US Open champion’s longevity at the very highest level has been hugely impressive.

Rose actually hits his driver longer now than he did in his 30s, and that is clearly what is enabling him to compete so frequently at the majors.

His detailed preparation for every tournament he plays is another factor behind his recent success.

What Justin Rose decided to do instead of practice at Shinnecock on Monday

Laurie Canter has been giving golf fans an insight into just how challenging Shinnecock Hills will play this week, when speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.

Canter responded when asked how he deals with strong winds during practice rounds.

Um, I rely a bit on my caddie for that, Canter admitted.

But I can tell you, I had a chat with Justin Rose and Fooch yesterday, and they are not even going to Shinnecock today because it’s a different wind.

So he’s going to a different course nearby. He’s going to practice.

So, and I found that really interesting. A guy who’s got this much experience and has won a US Open. He’s like, ‘I’m not even going because I don’t want to visualise any golf shot that’s not going to be what I need’.

So, for someone like me who’s coming in and playing my 2nd, it’s those little titbits that I find really interesting, about how guys who are that good at preparing for majors and maybe insights into how they think about their week.

Justin Rose thinking outside the box

That goes to show just how seriously Justin Rose takes his preparation for tournaments.

The problem with a strong wind is that it can actually affect your golf swing, especially when it is blowing across you from left to right (for right-handed golfers).

Rose obviously felt it was the prudent play to practice elsewhere from Shinnecock Hills earlier this week.

And now only time will tell regarding whether or not that was the right move from the Englishman.

One thing’s for sure, he hasn’t left anything to chance ahead of the US Open this week.
