Bryson DeChambeau will be the only US Ryder Cup player who will not be at the Procore Championship on the PGA Tour next week, due to the fact that he plays on the LIV Golf league.

It was back in 2022 when DeChambeau left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf and now he is experiencing one of the consequences of making that decision.

In fairness to the 31-year-old, he qualified for the US Ryder Cup team automatically from just eight events played – all four major championships in both 2024 and 2025.

Keegan Bradley described that Ryder Cup achievement from DeChambeau as ‘unheard of’, but a problem awaits the LIV golfer next week, and that could have a knock-on effect for the US team.

Bradley and his Ryder Cup team are heading to Napa in California next week to play the Procore Championship.

However, DeChambeau has not been given permission to play the PGA Tour event, so he will miss out on any kind of competitive golf between now and the start of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

It’s a shame but the man from Dallas, Texas, made his bed, now he has to lie in it.

Taking his talent and his suitability to Bethpage Black into consideration, he will undoubtedly be just fine later this month.

What Bryson DeChambeau has said about PGA Tour snub ahead of the Ryder Cup

Webb Simpson – one of Bradley’s five vice-captains – has been speaking on the Bible Caddie Podcast about the US team’s Ryder Cup preparations

Simpson highlighted how important it will be for everyone on the team to retain their competitive edge ahead of the showdown at Bethpage Black.

He said: One of the big takeaways was that the US had five weeks off from the Tour Championship to Ryder Cup.

That is so much time. The only guy we had in our team I’m pretty sure that played an event was Max Homa, who played in Napa. They called him Max Roma! He went 4-0 in Rome.

Then you have the European squad who played the BMW at Wentworth and maybe even another tournament, so they were more competitive and tournament golf ready than we were.

So Keegan very early on says to the captains, is there any chance we can get them to play in Napa.
I said I think it matters how you create that culture and get them to buy in.

He started with the vocal veteran leaders and they were totally bought in. I feel like there is a humility in this Ryder Cup that I have not seen from the players of ‘whatever we need to do to win the Ryder Cup we are going to do’. They are really trusting Keegan’s lead on that.

Simpson then revealed what DeChambeau has told the US team about not being allowed to play in Napa.

Keegan did not have to try to talk one player into playing. They all were brought in.

So we have everybody playing minus Bryson and he would kill to play. He has told us that he wishes he could play but that’s the state of golf right now.

But to have four competitive rounds, to have the guys seeing each other and maybe even playing practice rounds and pairing up a little bit, of what we might see over there [at Bethpage], I think is only good for them and a short week off before the Ryder Cup, so they will be ready.

Homa actually went 3-1-1 in Rome but Simpson’s point remains. Five weeks off from competitive golf is far too long, and it’s no surprise the Americans struggled in Italy two years ago, with only one of their players having competed in a tournament in the lead-up to the event.

Brandel Chamblee makes Bryson DeChambeau Ryder Cup prediction

DeChambeau didn’t actually enjoy his best season in 2025, but he is still one of the most formidable opponents in the world of professional golf.

There won’t be a single European player who would relish coming up against him.

But will he play all five sessions for Team USA at Bethpage? Brandel Chamblee thinks he could, on one condition.

“I think the hardest problem of having the LIV players is – and it’s not because they’re LIV – we can have that discussion, and I certainly have it all the time, but I think Bryson DeChambeau will be hard to pair with. I believe Cameron Young plays a similar golf ball, if not the exact same golf ball. But just the style of golf Bryson plays has proved difficult to pair with in the Ryder Cup. His record clearly shows that,” he said.

“Oh my gosh, if they can find a partner with him, why wouldn’t he play all five? But early matches will set the tone. If they find somebody that he pairs nicely with.

Chamblee is absolutely right there. If DeChambeau finds a partner he gels with, why wouldn’t Bradley send him out in every single session?

He has the ability to overpower Bethpage thanks to his enormous length off the tee, and USA’s chances of winning the Ryder Cup will hinge heavily on DeChambeau’s form in three weeks’ time.
