A poor season for Brooks Koepka continued this past weekend at the LIV Golf event in the UK, but the former world number one is still pushing for Ryder Cup glory.

Joaquin Niemann was the big winner at LIV Golf by JCB, claiming his fifth win on the tour this year to extend his healthy lead at the top of the leaderboard this season.

For Brooks Koepka, a disappointing first round on the Friday ended in a +1 score for the day, before shooting par on the Saturday and two-over on the Sunday.

The Team Smash captain finished tied-47th overall and is now only just clinging onto his place in the top 30 for the LIV Golf 2025 standings.

Brooks Koepka is grinding hard to raise his game after LIV Golf UK disappointment

Koepka was very much a peripheral figure at the recent LIV Golf UK event, and was visibly frustrated with his game over the weekend.

However, once the rounds were over each day, Koepka was seen working on his putting stroke relentlessly. Interestingly, he was more specifically trying to sink putts within 10 feet, something he struggled with on the course at the JCB.

In fact, Koepka was said to be the last player out on the practice green on the Saturday, and it wasn’t the first time during his stay in the UK that he was putting in the hours out there.

As per Andy Roberts, Editor of Golf Magic, Koepka was described as “grinding hard” to find his form, with his place at the Ryder Cup 2025 more than likely on his mind.

Team USA for Ryder Cup lacks star quality, Brooks Koepka could be a smart gamble

As things stand, Brooks Koepka is nowhere near being selected for Team USA for the Ryder Cup in Bethpage later this year; at least, not through the points he’s accrued this season.

Koepka is actually way down in 74th place among the US golfers, with 906.25 points. To put that into perspective, Scottie Scheffler is top with 32,420.33 points, while sixth-placed Harris English would make the cut with 10,385.65 points.

However, there is always the chance that Keegan Bradley takes a punt on Koepka as one of his captain picks for Team USA. In fact, Bradley even invited Koepka to his recent Ryder Cup dinner, so he’s clearly on the mind of the skipper.

While Koepka is in dire form, there’s no denying that, on his day, he’s one of the best golfers Team USA could call upon. He has a winner’s mentality, is hungry to represent his country and claim the trophy, and brings a wealth of experience playing in the competition, too.

It would be a huge gamble from Bradley to take Koepka to Bethpage, but it’s one that could well end up paying off.
