Wesley Bryan suggests how many players on LIV Golf are ‘comfortably better’ than him

One of the criticisms which could arguably be made about LIV Golf is the lack of depth the league has boasted beyond its superstars throughout its three seasons.

Of course, LIV Golf have absolutely upset the apple cart since starting out in 2022. They have landed a number of big names, including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka.

LIV have also managed to acquire a number of big names coming towards the end of their careers. Certainly, the DP World Tour, in particular, saw several legendary figures jump ship. Meanwhile, there has been some attempt to open the door to some talented youngsters with potentially bright futures.

However, LIV very much remains a work in progress. The top of the leaderboard looks extremely similar most weeks. And it does not appear to be anywhere near the same quality further down the standings, with many of the big names well past their peaks.

But perhaps LIV gets an unfair reputation for the lack of depth. Speaking on Peter Finch’s YouTube channel as they mimicked Bryson DeChambeau with a Break 50 challenge around Solina Golf Club, world number 217 Wesley Bryan suggested how many LIV players he would say are much better than he is.

“I will say, just statistically speaking, there’s only about 250 people better than me in the entire world that pick up these things, unless you want to get into the LIV debate, in which case there’s probably 20 guys on that tour that I would say are comfortably better than I am behind me in the world rankings,” he said.

“I will say the world ranking system is pretty busted and there ain’t no way that I’m a top 300 player in the world. There’s just simply no way.”

What Bryan’s comments show about the strength of the PGA Tour

The comments do highlight the amount of quality the PGA Tour boasts in comparison with LIV. Bryan was one of those who failed to make the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings after missing the cut at The RSM Classic last week.

The 34-year-old – who won the RBC Heritage in 2017 – was in that crucial 125th spot heading into the season finale in Georgia.

Some LIV supporters may argue that many more than 20 are comfortably better than Bryan despite being lower in the world rankings. But the fact that there is a debate to be had arguably shows why the PGA Tour remains, by far, the strongest right now.
