PGA Tour player Webb Simpson has said that LIV Golf’s Dustin Johnson might never get the credit he deserves for his career.

Johnson was one of the first big star names to join the LIV Tour after being one of the most successful players on the PGA in modern times.

The 39-year-old knocked up 24 PGA victories, including two major wins in The Masters and the US Open.

However, like many who have moved to LIV, Johnson’s reputation took a bit of a hit and as a result he’s become a bit of a forgotten star.

And speaking to Golfweek, the experienced Simpson has said it’s a shame Johnson won’t now get the credit he maybe deserves.

Webb Simpson says Dustin Johnson has missed chance at being an all-time great

Speaking about his good friend Johnson, Simpson admitted it was upsetting to him that Johnson might not get the praise he maybe should have for his career.

“I love Dustin (Johnson), he’s a buddy of mine, but he had the opportunity to go down as one of the top 10 greatest players ever, and as soon as he signed his name to LIV – he still could be, but in the record books, we’ll never know. It’s not going to count. Things like that make me a little sad. But I’m not knocking the guys for going. I just think these young guys think about it different, you know,” Simpson said.

Johnson obviously won’t care too much about that legacy.

Those 24 wins and two majors are still in the record books and if he goes on to be a success in LIV, then he’ll simply claim that as part of that legacy as well. Indeed, he has already won on the LIV Tour, adding to his resume.

Simpson’s words do have some meaning to them and he’s right in that Johnson does get forgotten about a bit.

But when the dust settles, those who simply love golf will no doubt look back at ‘DJ’ as one of the greats.
