We all know Donald Trump loves his golf but it’s not everyday you hear from someone who has played with the former American President, let alone the likes of former England striker, Wayne Rooney.

Trump is known around the world for loving the game of golf and he is one of the most active players in terms of those with celebrity status.

We often see clips posted of the former US President playing, but we rarely hear from those who have actually had the experience of playing alongside him.

Fortunately for us all, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has broken that trend.

And detailing how he ended up on the course with Trump, Rooney has shared a brilliant and almost surreal story of how the round played out.

Wayne Rooney reveals how he ended up playing golf with Donald Trump

Speaking on Gary Neville’s The Overlap – Quickfire Questions, Rooney told the brilliant story of how he’d ended up playing a round of golf with Trump.

“It was when he asked me to give his son some football lessons, in DC. So he said do you want to see my Dad? So I said yeah, he’s took me into the Oval Office, and from there his PA was just texting saying do you want to play a round of golf with him?,” Rooney said.

“The maddest thing about it was you had Giuliani (former New York mayor Rudy), in a buggy behind us. Then there was about 50 to 100 buggies all behind him all security.

“Then there was a boat on the lake with snipers, snipers in the bushes. I was just like what is going on here?!”

Unfortunately, Rooney gave little detail in the way of how the round went.

But we can all assume Trump will have won, given the amount of time he seems to spend on the course and of course, his status in the world!

Does Donald Trump cheat at golf?

Well, he does if you listen to sportswriter and author, Rick Reilly, who has also played with the former president.

Speaking about his time playing with Trump and witnessing first hand elements of cheating, Reilly has said Trump has no shame when it comes to getting an advantage.

“I’ve always said golf is like bicycle shorts. It reveals a lot about a guy,” Reilly joked during his appearance. “And what it reveals about this guy is that he cannot lose. He has to win and he will do anything to cheat.”

“And I know because I played golf with him and he took seven mulligans. He took a ‘give me chip-in.’ I’ve never even heard of a ‘give me chip-in,'” he added.

Reilly also revealed how Trump declares himself the winner of certain tournaments…without even playing in them!

“What he does [is] he just calls in and goes, ‘I usually beat that guy, give me the trophy,’” Reilly suggested.

“And I know this because when I play with him, he goes, ‘You know what I do to win these championships, don’t ya?’ and I go, ‘Please tell me. Give it to me.’ And he goes, ‘Anytime I buy a new course, I play the first round all by myself and then I declare myself the club champion,’” Reilly continued. “So that’s what kind of guy this is.”

Of course, we’d never suggest anything otherwise and Rooney didn’t hint at anything in his comments.

Quite whether Reilly’s take on proceedings here is always spot on, is open to debate.
