Jack Nicklaus is the greatest golfer to ever live.

That statement may be up for debate, and there are certainly cases to be argued for the likes of Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead.

However, his record of 18 major championships puts him very much at the top of the tree. Let’s not forget the amount of runner up finishes he had in golf’s four premier tournaments as well (19)!

Jack Nicklaus is a phenomenon. The now 85-year-old was one of the very best around when it came to performing under pressure, if not the best.

The American really was the full package. He was incredibly long off the tee, pinpoint accurate with his irons and had wonderful hands around the greens.

Hank Haney once described Jack Nicklaus as the best putter of all-time as well.

And Jack rolled back the years during a flying visit to the Valero Texas Open on Friday.

What Jack Nicklaus did at the Valero Texas Open left fans amazed

The Valero Texas Open is currently at the midway point, with Brian Harman leading the PGA Tour event at 12 under par.

The 2023 Open champion leads by four shots from second placed Keith Mitchell.

However, all the talk on Friday was about something that happened off the course.

Nicklaus was giving a demonstration about how to read greens to a selection of fans, and he proved that he very much still has some magic left in those hands:

How good is to see the Golden Bear at 85 still pulling things like that off! There really is nobody else like him in the game.

That was not an easy putt by the way – not a bad effort considering it was Jack’s first attempt!

When Jack Nicklaus taught Johnny Miller a lesson

Nicklaus has a history of producing the goods during exhibition events.

Back in 2010, Jack took part in a putting clinic alongside Johnny Miller, ahead of the Senior PGA Championship at Colorado golf club.

As Miller was lining up a hugely undulating putt that was at least 60 or 70 feet long, he suggested that it was ‘impossible’.

That’s when Nicklaus stepped in to prove that the putt was in fact ‘possible’.

The Golden Bear may well not play any form of competitive golf anymore.

But when Jack Nicklaus has cameras on him, and an audience watching on, he clearly still has the inner belief and strength needed to remind everyone just how good he was in his pomp.
