Scottie Scheffler makes his return to the UK this week as he tees it up in The Open at Royal Troon.

A memorable 2024 for Scheffler could be capped off perfectly by winning in Scotland.

Of course, it will be no easy feat. The tricky links of Troon and the potential for high winds and rain make things tricky for even the best players in the world.

Scheffler is, as we know, the number one player in golf right now and he’ll be keen to showcase that he can very much deliver on UK soil.

Key to doing well around Troon will be playing the percentage shot on certain holes and simply escaping with a par.

That is never more apparent on the course than on the tricky, short, par three 8th hole, which is known as ‘The Postage Stamp’.

It has the potential to catch anyone out, especially if the pin is tempting.

And as Scheffler found out when playing a practice shot on the hole, it can very much eat you alive despite it’s short distance.

For the world number one, a hole of just over 100 yards or so should be a walk in the park.

But The Postage Stamp is another matter.

As shown on The R&A YouTube channel, Scheffler tried to go for the pin, only to see his tee shot drift right and then roll off into one of the deep greenside bunkers.

Following on from that, both Scheffler and Sam Burns tried a bit of a party shot with the four iron as they looked to run one in low.

Those shots also failed, much to the amusement of the crowd!

Come play on Thursday, Scheffler will be hoping for a much better outcome. In the end, even the world’s best player might have to be forced to play it safe and simply land it safely aboard the green.
