Viktor Hovland has assessed his performance at the Olympic Games and issued his verdict on the whole event at Le Golf National.
It was an underwhelming week for Viktor Hovland, with the Norwegian finishing tied for 30th. Much of the damage was done during his second round in France, with the PGA Tour star shooting a 75 to all but play himself out of contention to win a medal.
He fought back well over the weekend, finishing seven under par across his final two rounds, but a player of his quality will be disappointed to ultimately finish 13 shots off the medal places.
The Olympic golf event has surprised a lot of people, particularly when it comes to the crowds which have come through the gates at Le Golf National in the last few days. It certainly has the potential to be the kind of event which sets the standard for future stagings of the golf tournament at the Olympics.

Speaking in his press conference after his round, Hovland suggested that he definitely enjoyed the opportunity to represent his country, even if his performance on the golf course was not good enough in his view.

“Fun experience. First time being here in Paris playing Le Golf National. I think it’s a very good golf course and very good test. It separates the players that are playing well, and if you’re struggling, it’s going to kick your ass,” he said.
“I didn’t play very good this week. So a little disappointed with that, but overall it’s fun to be here.”
What next for Norwegian?
It has been difficult year for Hovland, particularly as he appeared to be poised to become one of the best players in the world towards the end of last year, winning the Tour Championship and then playing a starring role in Europe’s Ryder Cup win.
But he has not won since then, and he missed the cut at three of the year’s four majors. So his mid-table finish is not entirely surprising – and he now has some work to do as the FedEx Cup play-offs loom.
Hovland is currently sat 55th in the standings, so he is one of those under a lot of pressure if he is hoping to book his ticket to defend his Tour Championship title at East Lake.
He definitely has the talent to get back on track. Phil Mickelson said Hovland was on the verge of greatness earlier this year. So it is understandable that he has some mixed emotions after his performance at the Olympics.
