Scottie Scheffler had a moment to forget at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday as he completed his third round with a bogey on 18 after putting into a bunker.
Scottie Scheffler went into round four in Scottsdale, Arizona in a tie for fourth after his second 66 of the week. However, the American will have felt that he should have been closer to the lead.
Scheffler had a long putt for birdie on 18. Had he made the putt, he would have signed for a 64 which would have left him on -15 going into the fourth round on Sunday.

However, in a moment which most of us can probably relate to – and those who say they can’t are lying – the 27-year-old managed to overhit his putt and send the ball off the green. To make matters worse, it was a bunker which subsequently swallowed his ball. Fortunately, Scheffler was able to get up and down to limit the damage.

Sadly for Scheffler, the incident was caught on camera…
Happens to the best of us, Scottie
It is always slightly satisfying to see when a world-class player hits a shot which would not look out of place on the local course on a Sunday afternoon.
Of course, Scheffler was playing on a much tougher green. And the pressure was much greater. But none of that matters when we receive a reminder that the very best golfers in the world have their embarrassing moments too.
It is just a shame that it does not work the other way where we hit the kind of drives Scheffler would be happy with. His tee shot on 18 travelled 309 yards into the rough on the right.
And many of us certainly have no idea what it is like to sign for a 66, let alone two in a row.
But yes, that putt. That putt definitely looks familiar.
