Tyrrell Hatton came up just short in the HSBC Championship over in Abu Dhabi this weekend as Paul Waring secured a huge win to boost his PGA Tour card hopes.

Waring won the event at 24-under par despite some fierce competition behind and some big names like Hatton, Rory McIlroy and Matt Wallace all making a final day push.

In the end, Waring held his nerve to see off Hatton, who finished outright second on 22-under par to complete another fine week of golf in 2024.

The Englishman did, though, manage to finish ahead of the likes of McIlroy, Wallace and Tommy Fleetwood in doing so.

Tyrell Hatton boosts Ryder Cup chances with second place at the HSBC Championship

Hatton, of course, is one of the players who has stuck to playing DP World Tour events as well when he can ahead of keeping himself in contention for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

A second place in the HSBC massive boosts his chances, and he now sits top of the European rankings for automatic qualifiers.

And over on social media, Hatton has reacted to his near-miss over in Abu Dhabi.

Hatton will be at Bethpage one way or another for Team Europe

It’s still very early days in terms of that Ryder Cup qualification but there’s no doubting Tyrrell Hatton’s ability as one of the best golfers Europe have.

His form over on LIV has been good and then today, he showed yet again why he’s one of the very best players on the DP World Tour circuit.

Hatton will 100% be part of Luke Donald’s team after his efforts in Rome in 2023 and the question really is does he qualify automatically, or will Donald have to pick him.

Right now, it looks like Hatton is on course to seal a spot on merit and on this form, it’s great news for Europe.
