Tyrrell Hatton has surely put one foot on the plane for Bethpage Black and the Ryder Cup as he secured victory at the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday.
Tyrrell Hatton had a phenomenal 2024 following his move to LIV Golf; winning in Nashville before becoming the first three-time winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
And he has not taken long to pick up where he left off at the start of 2025.
It was the Englishman who ended up winning the Dubai Desert Classic for the first time on Sunday. It is the eighth win the 33-year-old has had on the DP World Tour. And it turns out that it came in a significant appearance for Hatton.
Tyrrell Hatton surprised by statistic from the Dubai Desert Classic
Hatton, of course, is no longer a regular on the DP World Tour following his jump to LIV. But he has been an excellent servant to the tour over the years.
In fact, he made his 200th start on the European Tour this week – not that Hatton himself had any idea. Speaking on Sky Sports during the final round, Hatton was taken aback when told that he had reached the landmark.

“Is it? That’s actually mad to hear that, I can’t believe it’s my 200th event. Mind you, I look like I’ve had a tough paper round, don’t I? The hair’s gone, my head looks like it’s upside down with this and not up here, and a few more wrinkles,” he said.
“That’s a nice stat, but I’d like to have a few more wins too.”
Hatton takes step closer to making Ryder Cup team with latest win
Hatton’s consistency has been particularly impressive over the last 12 months. He had seven top 10s on LIV, including that win in Nashville, while his worst result in the league was a tie for 25th.
Of course, you have to consider that the depth on LIV is not as strong. But it is quite something that Hatton arguably managed to outshine Jon Rahm when you take DP World Tour form into the equation for 2024.
It is perhaps ominous for those on LIV that Hatton has won already. And it is now hard to imagine that there is any way that Hatton will not be a key part of the European Ryder Cup team in New York later this year.
