Putting is a skill that is often overlooked by amateurs but is completely respected by those in the professional ranks.
PGA Tour, LIV Golf and DP World Tour stars are aware that tournaments cannot be won unless putts are holed from a variety of distances.
On average, a professional PGA Tour player will three-putt around 2.37% of the time. Furthermore, tour players make 87% of their putts from inside five feet.
Clearly, for amateurs looking to reach single figures, tidying up three putts and ensuring the short ones hit the back of the cup is an absolute must.
Some tour players have been struggling on the greens this year, however.
Bubba Watson among worst putters on LIV Golf and PGA Tour

A big name who is among the worst for strokes gained putting on the whole of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is Bubba Watson.
The former Masters champion lost 1.40 strokes per round on the greens during the 2024 LIV season, which resulted in several poor finishes.
| PLAYER | STROKES GAINED PUTTING PGA TOUR/LIV GOLF |
| Rory Sabbatini | -2.49 |
| Brandon Berry | -2.16 |
| Jim Herman | -1.73 |
| Peter Uihlein | -1.49 |
| Bubba Watson | -1.40 |
Watson was relegated from the LIV Golf League after the Individual Championship in Chicago, and the 46-year-old is attempting to play his back on the Saudi-backed venture.
Watson competed in the BNI Indonesian Masters and finished T13 on 14 under. The lefty could well be handed a LIV lifeline if a valid ‘business case’ is made to reinstate him on the circuit.
Tiger Woods also among worst putters in 2024
Despite only featuring in a handful of events, Tiger Woods finds himself near the wrong end of the putting rankings.
Woods lost -0.87 to the field per round during his 11 rounds of golf in 2024. If the 15-time major winner returns next year, working on his putting is non-negotiable.
Tiger’s long game, at times, looked adequate. The early part of the US Open and Open Championship demonstrated that the shots are still there for the 48-year-old.
Now, it’s about getting tournament rounds under his belt and ensuring he’s back putting somewhere near his best.
