Tommy Fleetwood continued his preparations for the Ryder Cup by playing at the BMW PGA Championship, which was won by European vice captain Alex Noren.

Fleetwood thinks his putting is underrated, with the Englishman having shone in that area on the PGA Tour this season.

But he claimed his maiden PGA Tour win at the very last event, triumphing at the Tour Championship last month.

Fleetwood has since turned his focus to the DP World Tour, with the BMW PGA Championship representing his first appearance since that win at Eastlake.

And he finished T46 at Wentworth, ending his week on eight-under as champion Noren finished on 19-under.

The Swede battled past Adrien Saddier in a playoff, claiming his 12th DP World Tour win and second at the BMW PGA Championship.

And Fleetwood has now reacted to that victory on social media, writing on Instagram: “Can’t thank everyone enough at the BMW PGA Championship this week for their support yet again!

“Not the golf that we wanted but the putt on Friday evening to make the cut and the reception was a beautiful highlight!

“Amazing golf from Adrien Saddier right now and congrats to our Team Europe brother Alex Noren for the great golf and win here! Next stop… [European Ryder Cup team].”

Min Woo Lee reacts after T11 finish at the BMW PGA Championship

A long list of players were in contention for the title as the event progressed, in what was a low-scoring tournament.

And among them was Australian Min Woo Lee, who wrote on Instagram after ending on 14-under: “Call the Doctor. Good strides forward. T11th. Always enjoy coming back to Wentworth. ‘Til next time.”

He lived up to his reputation as “Dr. Chipinski” at Wentworth, but didn’t have enough in the tank to clinch success.

The same can be said of Saddier, who continued his impressive run after finishing T5 at the Irish Open last week.

But Noren has rightfully stolen the headlines, having only just triumphed at the British Masters last month.

And while he may not be playing in Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team, the players should benefit from Noren’s performance.

He will be on a major high following the win, and may just motivate the Europeans to raise their games at Bethpage Black in his role as vice captain.
