Tommy Fleetwood is in a fantastic position to finally win on the PGA Tour, with the Englishman heading into the final round of the Travelers Championship with a three-shot lead.
It is one of the more baffling statistics on the PGA Tour that Tommy Fleetwood is the highest-ranked player on the all-time money list without a win.
Of course, the 34-year-old has won several times on the DP World Tour. And he is certainly someone who can step up on the big stage, having shone in the key moments at both the 2018 and 2023 Ryder Cups. He has also finished in the top three at three of the four majors.
But getting across the line on the PGA Tour has been difficult for Fleetwood.
Tommy Fleetwood suggests why he has struggled to contend on the PGA Tour this year
Fleetwood went into the week having made 13 starts on the PGA Tour this year, registering four top 10s. His only missed cut came at last week’s US Open.
He will almost certainly add another top 10 to his tally at Travelers Championship. But of course, he will want a lot more.
And following his third round, Fleetwood outlined the reasons why he has not been in contention more often this year.

“I think sometimes it’s been a slow start. I think I’ve been a slow starter for a few of the tournaments. The other thing is, like the standard of golf out here is really, really high. Like, just because you are not up there week-in, week-out or a lot, it doesn’t mean you’re not playing well. I feel like I played really, really well and just been shy of those Sunday challenges, if you like,” he said.
“There’s not that much to it. We all think about our game so much, and you always are looking for what you could do better or what you’ve done well and what you need to change. I honestly feel like I’ve been playing very well and at a very consistent level, but just haven’t been, you know, had those weeks where I’ve had sparks and been right up there at the top and challenged really.”
Tommy Fleetwood’s average scores by round on the PGA Tour this season
Heading into this week, Fleetwood had statistically performed worst in his first round of tournaments this year. He averaged 71 shots per round on Thursdays.
Interestingly, his joint-best day has been Sunday. But those numbers are somewhat skewed by the 81 he shot in the final round of the Valero Texas Open. That is five shots worse than his next poorest round on the PGA Tour this season.
| Round | Tommy Fleetwood’s average score on the PGA Tour (2025) |
| One | 71 |
| Two | 69.9 |
| Three | 70.9 |
| Four | 69.9 |
That is going to make the task facing the likes of Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley and Jason Day all the more difficult.
