Augusta member Michael McDermott played alongside Tom Kim on day three of The Masters on Saturday.

It’s every golfer’s dream right? Not only to play Augusta National, but to play it on a tournament day during The Masters alongside a PGA Tour star!

Michael McDermott was handed that honour on Saturday, when he was paired with Tom Kim in the first group out on day three, due to the fact that there was an odd number of players remaining in the field.

It really doesn’t get much better than that does it.

But how did McDermott get on at Augusta National on Saturday?

Tom Kim says what score he thinks Michael McDermott shot at The Masters

Kim shot a level-par 72 on day three of The Masters.

It must have been strange for him playing in a Major Championship alongside an amateur golfer.

Kim spoke glowingly about McDermott after his round had finished though.

The 22-year-old said:

He played great. I mentioned earlier, he’s really, really good player. Definitely helped just kind of the rhythm of golf, just going out and playing alone and having no momentum or not feeding off anyone. It was nice to be able to have a conversation down the fairwayI enjoyed it personally very much.

Kim then responded when asked if he had any idea what the amateur shot around Augusta National:

Yeah, he picked up a lot, but I think if he really concentrated and wasn’t really focusing on trying to get out of my way, because he was being so nice and trying to get me focus on what I was doing, I still think he would’ve shot in the 70s especially it was really impressive. Really, really good golfer.

Yeah, you know, if you had a chance — I think if I putt out first he would just pick up. You know, I kind of told him, we would just — let’s go in the rhythm. If you make a birdie or par ahead of me, you can tee off first and let’s go in the same rhythm.

He played great actually. Hits the ball really far. His irons, sometimes he grabbed one club longer than me. He was a complete baller.

Who is Michael McDermott – the man who played alongside Tom Kim at The Masters?

McDermott, 48, is the CEO of Kathmere Capital Management.

He is a very successful amateur golfer, and was named the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Player of the Year five times from 2000 to 2008.

The Augusta member is a +1.8 handicap, but has been as low as +3.1 in the past.

Michael McDermott clearly more than held his own alongside Tom Kim at The Masters on Saturday.

And it was lovely to hear Kim speaking so highly of him after the round.
