Scottie Scheffler very much picked up where he left off in the 2024 season, as the world number one produced a stunning final round to win the Hero World Challenge on Sunday.

Scottie Scheffler made it nine wins worldwide in 2024. He went into the final round of the Hero World Challenge one shot behind Justin Thomas. But ultimately on Sunday, no-one could come close to keeping up with the 28-year-old at Albany.

Scheffler was four shots better than anyone else in the field on Sunday alone to win by six. He made nine birdies on his way to posting a 63 to stroll across the line.

Scheffler’s round was the second best of the week – with Tom Kim‘s third round of 62 proving to be unbeaten across the tournament. And of course, the pair are very good friends, often practicing together in Texas.

It turns out that Scheffler is rarely as impressive when playing outside of a tournament. Speaking after his win was confirmed, Kim shared what he finds most impressive about the two-time Masters champion.

“For me the biggest thing is it’s where we go home and he shoots even par, one over and he comes out here and wins, he does it all the time. I think the biggest thing that I see is that he’s always trying to get better. Despite winning nine times this year, he’s always finding little ways and I think it’s really, really cool to see and you can take a lot from that,” he said.

“He wins 95 percent of the time. You know, after he’s become a dad we haven’t been able to hang out as much, but just if we have time, he’ll text me and I’ll ask him. But again, he’s become a dad, so things have changed. I’m so happy for him. He’s won nine times this year, he’s made history. I can’t wait to go out there and give him a hug.”

How Scheffler became an all-time great in 2024

Not only has Scheffler won nine times worldwide, but his year has been made up of so many significant victories. He won at Augusta National for a second time, while he also became the first player to retain the Players Championship.

Scheffler won four signature events and the Tour Championship. And he won an Olympic gold medal in France.

There is no question at all that it has been one of the all-time great years. While not all of Scheffler’s victories are recognised as PGA Tour wins, it is frightening to think of just how often he has written his name in the history books in the last 12 months.

And based on his performance in the Bahamas, it appears that Scheffler is not budging from golf’s summit for some time to come.
