Tiger Woods has revealed whether he thinks he has a chance of winning The Masters ahead of Thursday’s first round at Augusta.

The 48-year-old is looking to land his 16th major Championship and replicate his memorable 2019 victory.

It’s safe to say a Woods win this week would eclipse his 2019 heroics. Having featured just once in 2024 – a withdrawal from the Genesis Open – Woods’ current form is unknown.

He has now been talking ahead of this week’s event and has revealed whether he has a chance of donning his sixth Green Jacket.

After his 1997 win, Woods will always have the opportunity to feature at Augusta.

The odds are certainly against the former world number one. However, his confidence remains high.

“I have got to have a lot of things go right,” he told ESPN.

“I still think I can win this event. I have to have a lot of things go right. And do the right things.

“And think and miss the golf ball in the correct spots and commit and execute and understand this golf course is going to change quite a bit come Wednesday and Thursday into the weekend, especially with the weather coming in.”

Can Tiger really compete with the likes of Scottie Scheffler at Augusta?

Considering we haven’t seen Woods since his withdrawal from the Genesis Open, his first objective must be to make the cut.

With stronger winds potentially arriving over the weekend, it could take an experienced head to get the job done come Sunday afternoon. Scottie Scheffler is obviously the overwhelming favourite, but questions remain about how well he can manage expectations.

As the golfing world knows, Woods can turn up and deliver exactly when he needs to. A miracle can’t be ruled out, but realistically, the big positive is seeing the 48-year-old back on the course once more.

Patrons will be desperate for Woods to make it around 36 holes unscathed and potentially tee it up on Saturday and Sunday. For now, expectations should remain low.
