Even Bernhard Langer was fully aware of who the majority of the crowd at PNC Championship wanted to see win, as Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods missed out in a play-off in Orlando.

Unsurprisingly, so much of the attention heading into the PNC Championship was surrounding Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods. The pair have made several appearances in the event in recent years, but had actually not won previously.

Unfortunately, their wait for a win continues. They were beaten by Team Langer in a play-off on Sunday after finishing tied on 28 under par across the two rounds. However, it was definitely a week to remember for Team Woods.

Of course, the highlight came when Charlie made his first ever hole in one on the fourth hole on Sunday. The pair also set the joint-record for the lowest score in the event’s history.

Tiger Woods shares what impressed him most about Charlie Woods at the PNC Championship

Plenty of viewers were impressed by Charlie Woods during the opening round. And it was notable how he carried his drives the best part of 300 yards down the middle of the fairway on both occasions in which they played the 18th hole on Sunday.

And speaking after their play-off loss, Tiger Woods was asked which part of his son’s game impressed him the most, before it was then put to him to compare Charlie with himself at a similar age.

“He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player. I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited,” he said.

“I wish I hit it that far and that good. I definitely did not do that at his age.”

How Charlie Woods already compares with PGA Tour players

Obviously, it is difficult to make comparisons between Tiger Woods and Charlie. Woods would not win his first PGA Tour event until the age of 20.

Equipment has changed quite considerably between the early 1990s and today. But according to the PGA Tour, the 15-time major champion averaged 277.3 yards off the tee in 1994 at the age of 18.

Meanwhile, Charlie Woods was reaching ball speeds of 173 miles per hour over the weekend.

That is higher than the 2023 PGA Tour average with the driver. So there is definitely a very bright future ahead of the teenager if he heads down the same path as his father.

With the game he has, the biggest challenge he may face is having to deal with the inevitable comparisons with arguably the greatest to have ever played the game.
